KarstadtQuelle has expanded its network to Romania

The German mail-order company KarstadtQuelle operates in 18 European countries, with Romania as the most recently opened market in May 2005. Quelle has been present in Romania since 1997, with a purchasing center, but did not sell products to Romanian customers.

Quelle - haine - has chosen Satu Mare as the Romanian head-office due to the shorter distances from the western Romanian border to the supply warehouses in Germany and Austria. The Romanian branch operates a call center and has opened a post office in collaboration with Posta Romana for faster delivery.

It also employs a courier company's services. The packages reach the customers within three weeks of the order. The number of employees has increased from 7, when the company was founded, to 20 at this moment, but new openings will be announced as the company's services will develop in Romania.

The start has not been very smooth, confesses Lung. "There was reluctance on customers' behalf. In the beginning they ordered just one product. However, things got better in time. We even received an order of 80 million lei." The best sold goods so far have been home furnishings, technical products and clothing items. Regardless of how many products are ordered, the delivery cost is 9.9 RON. The catalogue can be ordered via internet, fax, or telephone.
