Responding to a report from the Department of Transport confirming a substantial reduction in car insurance costs between 2001 and 2007, PIBA, the country’s largest group of independent insurance brokers, said the growth in online insurances should see further savings for consumers in the future.
PIBA Chief Executive Diarmuid Kelly said that the drop brings Ireland Insurance more into line with what is the norm internationally, “although there is some further room for improvement.”
And he said that PIBA has just launched an online service for its 900 members throughout the country. This service allows PIBA Members to avail of an online car insurance facility. The emergence of the internet as a source of insurance is growing by the day and Brokers need to be aware of the potential of this channel of distribution. It allows Brokers offer client’s real-time quotes 24 hours a day 7 days a week which means that people can now take care of their car insurance needs from their own home and at whatever time of day suits them. It also allows Brokers to cut down the costs associated with processing this business and this will eventually lead to further savings for their clients.
“PIBASure.ie was set up to allow Brokers have access to the growing online market. Prior to this it would have been far too expensive for a small to medium size Broker to invest in this technology. PIBASure.ie. is a new facility giving brokers access to an online quote engine which they can place on their own website. Clients can either get quotes through their Broker’s website or if they don’t have a Broker they can access the site directly and a Broker will be assigned to them. “
