The report is a high-valued reference for investors to know the status quo of Chinese plant extract market and the development trend. It helps investors evade the investment risks and grasp opportunities through synthesized analysis on raw materials, production, demand, and investment.
Plant extracts are products refined directly from plants according to the need of their terminal commercial use. However, the effective ingredients will still remain unchanged after the physical and chemical separating process and directional refinement coupled with condensation. Currently, the concept of plant extracts is comparatively extensive due to their different classifications; they can be transformed into glycoside, acid, polyphenol, polysaccharide, terpene, flavonoid and alkaloid, etc. according to their ingredients. They can also be transformed into vegetable oils, extracts, powders, and crystalline lens, etc. according to the character of terminal commercial use.
Internationally, plant extracts can be divided into two different kinds: pharmaceutically-oriented and cosmetically-oriented such as fragrant oils. Before 1980s, these two terminal products occupied almost equal market share. But the tranquility was broken in the early of 21st century, as the rise of the pharmaceutical plant extract market, the global market share of which was twice as much as the cosmetic market. In contrast, the growth of cosmetically-oriented plant extract has been slowdown since then. It is estimated that the global plant extract market scale reached 8 billion US dollars in 2007 and the figure is expected to reach 9 billon in 2008.
It is reported that 90 percent of Chinese plant extract products are exported to oversea market, which led to a commercial weakness in the domestic market. In the long run, China as a fledging of global plant extracts market has remarkable potential although its market scale is small. Chinese domestic plant extract market is promising with the
increasing need of health care products and the growing interest of China’s beverage and cosmetics industry.
